Overview:

Though the Brutus has never achieved the fame of other, more renowned tank designs, its power and reliability make it a favorite of forces throughout the Inner Sphere. Despite its highly successful initial test runs in 2998, the Capellan High Command relegated the Brutus to second-line forces, where it remained for decades. The Brutus's fortunes changed, however, when Hanse Davion's armies rolled over the Capellan forces during the Fourth Succession War. The AFFC forces captured large numbers of Brutus tanks and were so impressed with the combat performance of the design that the new AFFC High Command supplied Brutuses to its front-line Regimental Combat Teams (RCTs). The Brutus compared well with other famous tank designs such as the Von Luckner and the Manticore, and the versatile Brutus soon became a common sight among combat, garrison and militia forces. Today, the design is more popular than ever. Brutus tanks are deployed with numerous units in the Chaos March.

Capabilities:

The Brutus possesses an impressive combination of long- and short-range weapons. Its two turret-mounted MaxiLase heavy lasers and turret-mounted LRM-20 rack provide a solid long-range punch. For short-range engagements, the Brutus can unload fourteen-missile volleys from the reliable Hovertec SRM racks mounted on the tank's front.
The Brutus has respectable armor protection and speed for its weight class. Though it has less armor than comparable models such as the Manticore, the Brutus's superior firepower amply compensates for this weakness.

Variants:

Kressly has produced a number of Brutus variants. Most of these variants feature missile launchers in place of the standard configuration's heavy lasers. Others feature particle projection cannons in place of the original design's LRM rack.

Deployment

Brutus tanks are deployed with Davion and Lyran RCTs and numerous Davion, Lyran and Capellan border-world garrison units. Recently, several Capellan front-line units have begun to use Brutus tanks. Many of the troops of the Chaos March's minor nobles and powers also possess Brutuses appropriated from retreating Capellan forces.
